Our investment team is looking for a “Fellow (Investment)” who will work closely with the Investment Head and Principal to manage and expand our portfolio investments. The Fellow participates in the full investment lifecycle including screening companies, executing investment transactions, and portfolio management and monitoring. The Fellow role is an opportunity designed for candidates with several years of relevant work experience and/or a Masters degree who have the personality to work with various senior leaders internally and externally.
> Review investment pitches, analyze company’s positioning and develop a qualitative understanding of critical success factors for the business;
> Lead and structure terms of investment deals, shepherding deals from due diligence to investment committee approval;
> Assist in managing existing portfolio investments, ensuring compliance with reporting, financial performance, and tracking more important development milestones;
> Provide analytical support as part of the investment team, which includes: assimilating diligence items, ensuring accuracy and validity of data, evaluating financial performance and running financial models.
> Create reports (memos and financial models) analyzing the findings to present and discuss within the investment team.
> Source, evaluate and structure a venture debt transaction;
> Build a deal funnel of Southeast Asia start-ups that would benefit from venture debt through desktop research;
> Scout and attend networking events to promote Genesis and venture debt, and source potential deal flow;
> Identify digital tools that can enhance the investment team productivity;
> Be a Fellow with Southeast Asia’s leading private venture lender
> Understand the importance of venture debt in the capital structure of a fast-paced start-up
> Learn how to qualify a start-up, analyse the financial statements and prepare a case to present to the investment lead
> Gain valuable on-the-job experience of how the venture & technology industries function
> Write and present professionally in a venture capital and social media environment
> Demonstrated commitment to start-up and venture capital are preferred
> Experience in a dynamic, start-up like environment for 3-5 years is a plus
> Bachelor’s (Master’s preferred) degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Political Science or a related field.
> Investment banking, private equity, and/or venture capital experience preferred
> Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
> Strong communications skills (writing, presentations) preferred
> Financial modelling skills and high proficiency in spreadsheets
> Able to take on the Fellowship full-time for at least 12 and up to 24 weeks
